At the Zoo

It's Spring Break here, so we planned one big outing for the week.  The National Zoo!  

We headed into the city with our friends and met up with a bunch more friends.  

The National Zoo is different from the San Diego Zoos we "grew" up with.  There are far less animals and much more walking, but Mom was hoping the kids would see the excitement of the National Zoo like our friends who grew up here do.  Kylie seemed to like it, but her favorite animals were the butterflies, frogs and turtles.  Basically the backyard animals.  She demanded to see the lions the entire trip but was unimpressed by the one lion in the enclosure.  

Will loved the adventure of the whole thing but did say tonight that he remembers a bigger zoo when he was little.  The sea lions and otters were very entertaining and the giant pandas were adorable and active.  

Overall, it was a nice outing with friends and we saw a few animals.  Will was especially enchanted by the monuments we passed, so a D.C. outing may be in his future.  

Easter 2014

We've had another busy weekend here!  Yesterday, Mom went for her (very) early morning run and when she got home, dad went for a very muddy mountain bike ride.  The kids had earned a Build-A-Bear trip helping clean the van and finding a gift card and a coupon that expired today.  So, it was off to the mall for new stuffed friends.  Then, Mom went out to dinner with some friends for an early birthday treat.  Late at night, the Easter bunny did some damage in the house.

I just love how they get along so well on holidays and really show how bonded they are and how much they love the traditions we've set.  They were up early, conspiring to get downstairs and search for eggs and have a nice breakfast.

Shortly after breakfast (and Kylie brushing her hair), our friends arrived for our 4th annual Easter egg hunt.  We've been doing this together since the girls were only 1.  

Once again, the Easter bunny hid the eggs very military style.  We are positive we did not uncover all of the eggs.  In fact, Mom and Will found 4 while playing baseball this afternoon.  

This year, one silver egg with $1 in it and one gold egg with $2 in it were hidden.  Kylie found the gold egg.  She didn't care about the money at all, just the fact that it was GOLDEN.

We spent the rest of the day playing video games, watching a movie, and playing a lot of baseball outside.  We had a nice ham dinner and a relaxing evening.  Happy Easter, everyone!
