Post Thanksgiving Fun

Yesterday, Kylie and Grammie played some board games and did some puzzles.  Grammie and Will also spent almost 2 hours water color painting- a new hobby of Will's.  Grandpa, Daddy and Will headed out to the driving range and then we all packed up to go out to dinner and see the light show near the mall.  

We were late for the 6:30 show and had time to kill, so when we ran into friends from the Y who were heading to a laser light show with fake snow, we joined them.  The kids loved it.  Luckily, the laser show ended with just enough time for a bathroom break before the light show.

Today, we went to gymnastics while Dad and Grandpa golfed and then we played inside and outside while Grammie made delicious turkey soup and dumplings.  There was time for book reading and painting nails as well as getting out a few Christmas decorations (only the kind that doesn't talk, bark or sing).

More fun planned for tomorrow!

Ding-Dong

This morning, as the kids were getting dressed upstairs, the doorbell rang!  Now who would ring the doorbell at 7am the day after Thanksgiving?  

Santa, of course!  He dropped off one of his elves to spend the season with us as well as his 9 reindeer to help out.  We read the "Elf on the Shelf" book and Will named the elf, "Jingles".  The elf is here to watch the kids and report back to Santa each night after they go to bed.  He flies back to the house before they wake up and lands in a different spot each day.  

We're hopeful that elf can keep these kids in line for a month.

Thanksgiving 2012

We started the day off at the YMCA Turkey Trot here in town.  Mommy, Will, and Kylie were registered to run while Daddy was one of two turkeys helping the kids' one mile race.  Just as the 6 and under heat was about to start, Kylie turned into a sobbing, whining mess so she did not "GO" when they said "Ready, Set, Go."  Will, however, rocked the race. He ran his mile in 12:52, with no adult along side him (except for the two turkeys supervising the course).  

Mommy stayed after the kids' race to run the 5K, which she did in 32:09 while Dad and the kids headed home to prepare some things.  As soon as Mom got home, the stuffing went into the bird.  Will was happy to help.  He even helped scrub the potatoes.

And then Grammie and Grandpa arrived and Turkey Watch 2012 was on, with snacks to keep us busy!

We invited our friends, Bruce and Terry (Bruce was the other turkey at the race), from the Y to join us for dinner since they had no plans.  There was lots of laughs and good food all afternoon and evening.

We had 4 choices of pies for dessert, which Will declared to be his favorite part of Thanksgiving.

Our little turkeys crashed into bed last night, but they were up at the crack of dawn this morning, ready for more fun with Grammie and Grandpa!

Gobble Gobble

A Blank Canvas

Kylie and Will were happily water color painting at the kitchen table while Mom and Dad cleaned up for Thanksgiving yesterday.  Kylie came bounding into the office and proudly announced: "Wook at me!  Will painted me!"  

Indeed, he even signed his work.

Junior Kindergarten Thanksgiving

Daddy has the whole week off this week, so he asked Mommy if the preschoolers at the Y might like to see the Ti-pi for Thanksgiving and Native American week.  Mommy casually mentioned it to our friend and the director of the preschool at the Y and within an hour, the whole Y was buzzing that a real Ti-pi was coming.

(Will has been sounding out words on his own lately:  here he wrote RD QD for ride quads.  Impressive work!)

So, on Tuesday, we had a feast with another preschool class and a Ti-pi tour outside.  

The children and adults all loved it, and Will sure thought he was top dog having his Dad there for the day.

Aboard the Mayflower

Will is our child who absolutely LOVES holidays.  He just loves learning about them and traditions that go with them and the whole holiday season, plus any other holiday during the year.  We made this Mayflower ship out of a box that came in the mail from Grammie and Grandpa.  There are two versions of it which go on either side of Will's line at school as they "sail" down the hallway to the bathroom and PE class and wherever they may need to go.  Will was very happy to complete this project at home during Kylie's nap and then bring it to school to share.

Twins!

This morning, Kylie dressed herself and her doll in the same clothes!  This prompted Will to search high and low for something similar for Snuggles and himself.
