beach boy

Grammie and Grandpa are in town! They're staying at a hotel right on the beach, and, since it's 107 degrees out (not an exaggeration), we spent the morning at the beach with them. Grandpa and Will got right down to business collecting rocks and smashing sand castles. Mommy and Daddy always marvel at how little boys approach sand castles vs. little girls. One time, Daddy built an elaborate castle. When Will spotted it, he immediately wanted to smash it. A little girl near by, however, came over and wanted to "decorate" it with rocks and sticks and create a prince and princess to live in it.

We have a boy. He smashes castles. He shouts, "Hey-yaw" or "Yee-haw" while doing it.

As the morning turned to afternoon, Will wanted to be buried in the sand. Grandpa and Grammie worked hard to bury the boy, and Will kept one arm free to lend a helping hand, literally. When he was all buried, he did his best Gram impression as he turned his face to the sky and pretended to be asleep in the sun. We weren't fooled, though, since his giggling at his own joke gave it away.

what I love about Mondays...

A normal Monday afternoon conversation with Will goes something like this:
Will: "GUCKY!" (translation: I heard a garbage truck somewhere within a 50 block radius)
Mom: "You hear the garbage truck?"
Will: "YESSS!!!!"
Mom: "Should we go outside to see it?"
Will: "Yes!! Up, up!"
Mom: "The trash is going to go up, up."

Will: "Guy?"
Mom: "What does the guy say?"
Will: "Hewwo Will." (THAT is the cutest thing to hear ever)

and so, most Mondays are spent out on the sidewalk or on our patio, watching the garbage truck and waving to the guys. They stop right out front and wave to Will, which is super nice of them, alibit a bit stinky and loud, but super nice. It makes Will's day. This past Monday, the gucky truck was running a bit behind, so we were totally ready for his visit and we followed him along the sidewalk to watch him lift the trash "up, up!" Will was in awe.

An Alligator Birthday Party

Will was so excited to discover that he was having another Happy DAY! today. This time, it was with all his friends at his favorite place: the pool! We brought over the basketball hoop, bubble machine, and a borrowed water table to set the stage. The alligator theme was a big hit, as we had alligator floats, alligator squirt guns and squirties, alligator napkins and plates, and of course: an alligator CAKE! Gram made this masterpiece of a cake and it was surely admired...and then devoured.

Will was so so so cute when everyone sang happy birthday to him; he danced a little, grinned at the crowd, blew out the candle, and cheered for himself when everyone else clapped. Then he helped himself to some CAKE!

Overall, it was a day to remember and cherish and thank you to everyone who came out to the party and those who sent their well wishes and birthday gifts. Will definitely had a HAPPY DAY!

Happy DAY!

Today is Will's 2nd birthday! 2 years already! After spending the last two weeks asking, "Happy Day? Cook cake?", he FINALLY had his day in heaven today. From waking up in his favorite "a-do" jammies to wearing his new "2" shirt from Aunt Meep on Etsy, he had a great birthday. We spent the morning at the park, eating snacks with Buff and playing bubbles with Stroller Strides friends.

Then it was back home to "cook cake" with Gram.

After a refreshing nap, a grocery store trip was in order for final preparations for the big party tomorrow. Then, just after dinner, as the sun was setting, the best birthday present of all arrived: DADDY!!
