New Year's Eve Village 5K and Kidz 1 miler

Our Y sponsored the New Year's Eve race this afternoon at 3pm.  Mom was volunteering at the race, helping with various tasks and also getting people signed up for the blood drive we are sponsoring for our 2 year old buddy, TJ, who is very sick and could use all the good thoughts and prayers everyone has for him.

Will ran the 1 mile race while Mom was working.  He ROCKED it.  He ran it in 12 minutes, 8 seconds.  50 whole seconds faster than the 1 mile he did on Thanksgiving morning.  It was FREEZING at the race this afternoon, too.  We stuck around through the 5K and for the awards before begging off due to our freezing feet and hands.  By then, it was dinner time, so Mom and Will warmed up with some Chick-Fil-A and then headed home to snuggle with Daddy and Kylie and warm up.  Happy New Year!

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

The kids and Mom made Daddy cinnamon rolls and fruit and hot vanilla chai in bed yesterday morning for his birthday.  Will had picked out a new flannel shirt, which Kylie wrapped and hid under her bed to deliver in the morning.

Daddy used his Lowe's gift cards and some birthday money to purchase a new chainsaw, which he then spent the morning using in the woods with Will and Tank.  

We went out to dinner with our friends and then Daddy went out with his buddy, so we had ice cream cake this afternoon for his birthday.  Yum!

Kylie's First (real) haircut

Kylie and Mommy got their haircut together today!  Things really could have gone either way with Kylie in terms of mood and cooperation, but she was AMAZING.  People thought she was 4 years old, the way she chatted everyone up and asked questions and loved getting pampered.  (we're in trouble, here)

Mommy was in the chair right next to Ky, getting her own haircut, which required a quick wash, leaving Kylie sitting still within view, but across the salon.  She did not care at all, just kept asking all the ladies questions about what they were doing and why.  

And now, it's nice and even and hopefully won't be chewed on or dipped in food accidentally.

After Christmas Tree

It's our 3rd annual After Christmas Tree time!  We made bird feeders out of pine cones, peanut butter and bird seed.  This year, Will wanted to make a popcorn string like in Frosty, so Daddy helped him string some old popcorn we hadn't eaten.  

It quickly became an entire family project, as Tank smelled the peanut butter and decided to help out.

 We hope to see some birds enjoying the tree in the morning since we put it right on the back deck so we can watch from the window.  

Christmas Morning

Surprise of all surprises, Miss Kylie was the first one to holler out this morning that Santa had come.  Will wasn't far behind, though, and luckily, it was 6:30am, a reasonable hour for Christmas morning.

Will spotted his new bike from the staircase and Kylie was just overwhelmed by the site under the tree.

They had very different approaches to the morning task.  Kylie wanted to open everything and then OPEN everything and play with it, while Will opened everything and stashed it in his goal.

Will's favorite presents included a race track, a bike, a remote control car and a remote control helicopter, and his sleeping bag.

Kylie got 3 new baby dolls, along with baby clothes, Barbies, a baby seat, and a HUGE dollhouse from Aunt Leah and the gang in Utah.

She also got a sleeping bag and some cupcake making kits.

The sleeping bags were a huge hit, the kids snuggled into them during the day to play their video games and watch movies and read books.

We had a turkey dinner with the trimmings and ice cream for dessert and we played outside in the woods with walkie talkies and on bikes and with hockey sticks and basketballs.  Overall, it was a great day!  Merry Christmas!

Cookies for Santa

As per tradition, we made cookies for Santa after naptime this afternoon.  We went with tradition chocolate chip cookies with a twist (red-green-chocolate chips!).  Yum!!

And, just to be safe, we tested some for Santa.  They're approved!
