Our Weekend Hurrication

Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene visited us this weekend, leaving us inside all day Saturday. We expected to lose power and perhaps a tree or two, but we ended up losing neither. So, we made cookies, played dodgeball in the basement, wrestled, watched the news and the wind/rain. We painted and played tag in the living room. We learned that Kylie can now sport pig tails.



And just like that, Sunday morning arrived and brought the sun back. The backyard was full of leaves and sticks, so the boys began raking and cleaning while Tank supervised and Kylie explored.

We hope Irene is as gentle to New England as it was to us!

Moving Right Along

Will's birthday came and went and he's already put it behind him. Two days after his birthday, he made his Santa list. It includes: shoes, wood and a tire. No idea why.

First Day of School

Today was Will's delayed 1st day of 4 year old preschool! His original first day was Wednesday, but school was cancelled due to the 5.9 earthquake that hit on Tuesday. So, today was the big day!



Will reports that he had a great day and that he cut and colored his own green racecar which will be used to keep track of his behavior on a chart in the classroom. He is SO PROUD that he's 4 now, frequently asking Mom, "Do you know what number I am now?" and awaiting the surprised reaction when he says, "I'M 4!!"

Meanwhile, Mom and Kylie hunted down supplies to weather the storm this weekend. As of right now, we're in the Tropical Storm warning area, so we're just preparing for power loss and high winds and rain all weekend. By Monday, it'll be back to school again!

FOUR

Our big kid is four today. It seems like just yesterday that he was refusing to make an appearance in this world and now nothing can stop him. He has a vast vocabulary and notices every single detail of everything. He was the only one to notice the new floor rugs at the Y and he complained to the director of the Y when they forgot to put the flag up one day.



He wears a costume every chance he gets, especially his cape and his ski goggles. He has become an incredible swimmer this summer, retrieving items from the bottom of the 3ft section of the pool with ease. He remembers everything and everyone-including things from California. He loves Kylie but she sure has his number when it comes to pushing the limits and being pesky.


Will has plans to play soccer in the fall at the Y and he'll be heading off to 3-day a week preschool this week. He probably won't start kindergarten until he's 6 due to his late summer birthday and early school start, but he'll be more than ready when it's time. In fact, he's already sounding out words and he knows all the letters and sounds.


Will has a best friend, Alex, who he asks about almost on an hourly basis. If we're ever struggling to get his cooperation in doing something, we just tell him Alex is doing it right now at his house. Voila! Cooperation.

Will is fairly picky about his meal choices but doesn't mind veggies and fruit...just the main entree. He loves to eat cottage cheese with craisins in it and would gladly eat mac and cheese every night. His favorite color is still green.

We had a great Batman birthday party yesterday with all his friends and some family and we appreciate all the support and love as we enter our 4th year of being parents to this amazing kid.

Batman and (Red) Robin

After all the excitement of the birthday party, Gram and Gramps offered to take the whole batfamily out for dinner at Will's favorite place: Red Robin! Our waitress was a big Batman fan herself, so she gave us the royal treatment and Will even got a special song and treat after dinner.

Holy 4th Birthday, BATMAN!

Today was Will's big birthday party! We invited all his friends and got "the biggest Subway I ever sawed", according to Will. Everyone dressed in their best Batman shirt and all the party guests decorated their own capes, although some came prepared with capes from home!

The birthday boy himself wasn't feeling particularly cooperative when it came to posing for pictures, but he did have a great party and really seemed to enjoy himself...and the cake.

The parents were just as into the cape decorating as the kids were...some more so.
